I'm Robert Fines...

...also known as the Big Fish Artist.

Like many of the artistically inclined I toyed with the idea of an Art major in college only to accept the economic reality of this career choice and took another path. As rewarding as a career leading industrial businesses around world was for myself and my family, I never lost my desire to create. I dabbled with a few projects and commissions over the years, but it was the push from a fellow artist in 2003 that got me painting on a consistent basis. First working in acrylics and most recently transitioning to oils.

Put simply, I paint fish! Big, expressive fish. I like to think that people look at my work and they feel, well, happy. As a fisherman myself there are few things that still give me that knee knocking boyhood excitement of catching a big fish. All fishermen are alike. When they document that catch it’s a full arm extension to get that fish close to the camera.  It’s the best angle to immortalize that “big fish”. I use this distorted view to bring an added dimension to my work. Each painting is named for an individual. Each is unique and inspired by a person I know or a fish I love.…they are meant to be interpretive and expressive. I hope you can find joy in these paintings.

Big Fish Art is currently on display at Art Alley in Birmingham, Alabama and Betty Newman Art Gallery , Marco Island Fl.
